Five Loves on Friday // Overnight Date, Lilly Loveliness, Sparkly Snow, and Delicious Delights!

Happy Friday!  You know what that means, it's time to capture a handful of highlights from the past week and share them all with you here, friends!  Let's get right to the good stuff...

One  //  Overnight Date

My parents had our girls come for a sleepover last weekend, giving them some quality time together and also providing Jason and I with an overnight date!  We decided to pick up some yumminess, then cozied up for a sweet night in followed by a luxuriously lazy morning for two.  It was truly fantastic and easily one of the highlights of my month!  I sure do marvel over the goodness of God in blessing me with such a wonderful hubby!  *happy sigh*

Two  //  Sparkling Snow

This week we had another stunning snowfall.  I reveled in the gorgeousness of those big beautiful flakes as they sprinkled down from the sky.  Another simple joy was found in watching wildlife having a field day in the winter wonderland right outside our window.  I wish I had captured the cuteness of four bushy tailed squirrels chasing each other up and down our tree, through the street and along every other tree that lines it.  It was absolutely adorable!  While I didn't get a snapshot of their fun, I did see some evidence of some snow bunnies bouncing through our backyard...

Such a sweet sight!

Three  //  Lilly Loveliness

Y'all know that purses are one of my biggest weaknesses.  So, when I spotted this bright and cheery beauty in the Lilly After Party Sale for under half its retail price I pounced on it! (Those who shop that sale know what I mean as fast fingers are required to scoop up those pretty pieces before they're sold out!)

I'm loving the bright, bold colors along with all the gorgeous gold detailing.  I'm also a big fan of bags with built in card slots which are so handy!  Hooray for another reason to anticipate the spring to come!

Four  // Brinner {Breakfast for Dinner}

This week's "new to me" recipe really hit the spot!  I especially loved the addition of cream cheese to this breakfast casserole.  Yum!

Five  //  Nacho Fries + My Man's Thoughtfulness

You may remember around this time last year when Taco Bell introduced Nacho Fries and I went on and on about them.  It was love at first bite!  Yesterday I snapped a screenshot of an ad announcing their comeback and texted Jason along with clapping hands and heart eyed emojis, naturally.  The real life heart eyes came when my hubby arrived home announcing that we were having Taco Bell for dinner because his wife "needed" her nacho fries!  I immediately stopped my oven from pre-heating, happily took the night off from cooking, then savored my hubby's thoughtfulness ...along with the yumminess of those seasoned fries and cheesy goodness!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  After sharing so many of my food faves of this week with you, I'd love to hear what eats you've been enjoying too.  Feel free to share a "must-try" with me in the comment section below!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Five Loves on Friday // Date Night, Snow, Sweet Surprises, & More!

Happy Friday, friends!  I hope you've enjoyed a lovely week.  If not, take heart, the weekend is so close you can almost taste it!   But first, I'm looking forward to recapping some the simple and sweet joys since we last chatted here.  It's Five Loves time!...

One  //  Date Night = Great Night!

Friday night included many of my favorite "m"s  - my man, a Mexican meal, and a mango margarita!  YUMmm!

I'm such a seasonally inspired person.  In the summer I long to spend as much time outdoors on walks, bike rides, lounging in the sunshine on our deck - if it's outside (and we're not under a heat advisory) count me in!  Yet, in the winter months I long to be snuggled up with my favorite blanket and favorite people, comfy, cozy, and enjoying the beauty of the season looking out at it from inside my warm home.  However, when our youngest daughter had an event quite a drive from home requiring us to stay out and about for a few hours we had the perfect prompting for a date night out.  I must say, it couldn't have been better and had me questioning myself for always thinking "staying in is the new going out" all winter long.  Ha!  Good food and great company made for an amazing evening!

Nacho Fajitas for me, please and thank you!

I've loved this man for over half of my lifetime now.  It just keeps getting better and better!

Two  //  Canvas Cuteness

While we were out "Mmm"ing it up, Little One was enjoying a fun canvas painting class with her youth group.  The result was this oh so cheery and colorful painting that I couldn't adore more!

The waterway reflecting the bright, beautiful leaves paired with the glow of the lamplights along each side is so darling.  I wish it were a chalk drawing that like Mary Poppins I could hop inside!

Three  //  Snowy Saturday

It seems the older I get the more I long for those aforementioned cozy winter days gazing out at the glorious goodness of snow laden trees.  My wintry wish came true last Saturday and my heart was delighted that it did!  We woke to about three inches of snow and more danced on down to us throughout the afternoon hours.

I split the splendidly snowy Saturday between lounging in my new favorite reading chair and gazing out the window at the beautiful snowfall.  I only left the comfort of my cozy home twice, once to shovel with my hubby (I used headphones as earmuffs so Michael BublĂ© kept me company too) and for a trip to pick up our favorite, Thai takeout.  The drive was stunning and the meal that came from it, amazing!

When we arrived home I had a surprise waiting for me, which leads me to the next lovely love...

Four  //  My Favorite Kind of Surprise - Happy Mail!

I can't think of a sweeter surprise than opening up my mailbox to find an unexpected package thoughtfully prepared and sent with care.  I received such marvelous mail and what a day maker it was!

My sweet friend, Carrie of Curly Crafty Mom, handcrafted this beautiful beaded tassel garland for me!  She also included a lovely note and some sweet treats which were throughly enjoyed!  Thanks again, Carrie!  Your thoughtfulness added such joy to my week!

Five  //  Bible Wrapped in Beauty

This week I decided to swap my 20+ year old bible cover for a new beauty.  Covered in pretty pink roses along with golden accents, it's so pretty!  Far better yet are the contents it carries and protects, everything that God Himself has graciously revealed to us about who He is, who we are, our greatest need, His plan for our redemption, how and why He's given us life - all in this precious book, the Bible!  There is nothing of greater value than that!

I'm currently following the plan to read through the Bible in a year as laid out in my favorite study Bible with New Testament reading in the morning and Old Testament in the evening.  It's such a joy to see the promises and prophesies of the Old Testament fulfilled in the New Testament.  I treasure the wealth of insight found in the study notes John MacArthur has provided in this Bible, keeping each verse in context and diving deeper into what God has revealed to us through the gift of His Word!  If you are looking for an excellent study bible, I highly recommend the MacArthur Study Bible!  You can find them in a variety of translations and cover types at GTY.org and they always offer free shipping too.

Thanks so much for visiting today!  It's always a joy to have you here!  Wishing you a beautiful weekend ahead!

Five Loves on Friday // Favorite Traditions, Family Fun, and Sweets with my Sweets!

Happy Friday, friends!  I hope you're having a wonderful week!  I'm really looking forward to capturing mine here today and sharing the sweet deets with you!  Let's get right to the good stuff, shall we?

*Loves listed in chronological order. ;)

One  //  Christmas Light Night with my Loves

One of my favorite annual family traditions happens each December when we devote an evening to driving around looking at Christmas lights, listening to Christmas music, and savoring spoonfuls of sweet treats (my favorite is DQ's candy cane chill blizzard - yum)!  It always makes for such a fun and festive family night out!  I especially appreciate the time and thoughtfulness my husband puts into making this a special night as he knows it's one of my favorites of the year.  He spent the afternoon finding new songs and customizing a fantastic playlist for our evening, searched out the homes in the area that put on the best displays syncing up music to their own radio frequency so you can tune in and watch the lights dance to the beat, and even took our Explorer through the car wash so we'd all have the best possible view!  I am so thankful that Jason always goes out of his way to make this beloved tradition a spectacular one!  We soaked up every beautiful bit of the evening and returned home with light hearts and new memories!

Two  //  Dinner and Extended Anniversary Celebration with my Parents

My parents have been wanting to have us over for dinner to hear more about our 20th wedding anniversary trip.  Illness and schedules prevented it from working out on one end or the other, until this week.  The time together was worth the wait!  My parents prepared a yummy chili cheese dog bar with all the fixings followed by desserts galore.  We shared stories, laughed to the point of happy tears, and were given the thoughtful gift of money to go out and celebrate some more!  My parents also found a vintage Disney World 25th anniversary tin a while back and saved it to fill with goodies for a special occasion such as this.  We thoroughly enjoyed this special evening together!

Three  //  Hallmark Girls Day with my Sweet Sister

It's no secret that I love heartwarming Hallmark movies!  My oldest daughter and my sister also share a mutual adoration for them which sparked a new tradition - Girls Hallmark Movie Day!  We spent a full day cozied up side by side wrapped in soft Christmas blankets, laughing, getting misty eyed, cheering, and snacking while we marathoned our way through three fantastic new flicks.  It was easily one of my favorite days, not just of December, but the entire year!  Good eats, great entertainment, and the best company makes for an unforgettable day!

I invite you to pop back by my blog tomorrow for a special Saturday post dedicated to a super simple, yet oh-so-yummy breakfast I prepped for our time together.  If you're a fan of Christmas themed sweets that are as cute as they are easy to prep, you're not going to want to miss it!

Four  //  Christmas Package + Early Christmas Gift Goodness

Since I don't share the girls' real names on the blog I covered them on the adorable ornament on the top left, but it does indeed list all our names.  We couldn't love it more! :)

My incredibly thoughtful and equally talented friend Chrissy sent my family an amazing Christmas package this week!  She had us open four gifts now to enjoy during the Christmas season, and included more to tuck under our tree for Christmas morning.  Check out these magical gifts!  She ordered the darling personalized ornament on Etsy.  The Maleficent ornament is from the awesome Disney Sketchbook ornament line.  The pom pom Mickey ornament and Mickey snowman she both handmade herself!  Aren't they super cute?!  Until Christmas morning the packages wrapped up in Christmas donut paper sure are looking "sweet" under under our tree!  Thanks again, Chrissy!  You never cease to amaze me with your awesomeness, attention to detail, and care!

She also made the Mickey snowman faux snow globe seen in the bottom left and gifted it to us for Christmas 2016.  You can find her full tutorial for it here.

Five  //  Mini Dessert Date Night

Wednesday evening Jason had music practice for the Christmas Eve service at our church.  His practice began at 7:45pm, but our girls needed to be there at 7:00 for youth group.  What was he to do with those 45 minutes to spare?  He spent it sweetly, inviting me out on a "mini date".  I so enjoyed chatting with him between sips of another seasonal favorite, Chick-Fil-A's peppermint chocolate chip shake.  A date doesn't need to be extravagant or even a full evening to be special.  Taking time out of any day to give and receive the undivided attention of your love is a priceless gift.  I know this time of year can be extra busy, but I'd encourage you to take a "mini date" with someone you love soon too!  Your day and theirs will be richer for it!

Thanks so much for stopping by my nook of the web today!  Hope you'll be back tomorrow for a sweet "recipe" for a Christmasy breakfast that will bring smiles and holiday cheer to those you hold "deer"! ;)

Five Loves on Friday // Disney Plans, Date Night, and My Favorite Summer (Book) Sale!

Happy Friday, friends!  I hope your week has been as lovely as you all are, but if it hasn't then get excited because the WEEKEND will be here in a snap!  First, here's a handful of things that made my heart skip a beat since this time last week!

One  //  Celebratory Date Night

My parents invited our girls to spend the night last Friday to give Jason and I a date night in belated celebration of his 40th Birthday (earlier this month)!  Since he's been dividing his days between a high stress job and the home improvement project we have in full swing here, we decided a relaxing evening in was the best way to enjoy that special one on one time together.  We ordered takeout from our favorite local BBQ restaurant.  To keep it low carb and high yum I decided to try a new-to-me recipe (linked below the photo) to accompany the marvelous meat.  We rented the finale to The Maze Runner movie trilogy (based on a book series, I've not had the pleasure of reading) to enjoy while savoring each bite.  I have mixed emotions about this flick.  I will keep it completely spoiler free and say that I was hoping for a bit of a different ending.  I had a love/hate relationship with this final film.  Yet, it was an epic movie, our food was fantastic, and as always, any uninterrupted quality time with my man is thoroughly enjoyed!

Two  //  An Afternoon Spent with my Moms {Mom & MIL}

My parents and my in-laws have always gotten along so beautifully.  While Jason's dad and my own have been working side by side throughout our home improvement project (such skillful help those two are!), our moms had yet to visit on the some "work days" until Saturday.  The last time they were all together was two years ago when my in-laws attended my parents' 40th Wedding Anniversary party.  It was sweet to sit in the living room chatting with both my mom and Jason's.  It truly filled my heart with joy to hear them catching up, knowing that they were happy to see each other.  I know not all families that are joined by marriage mesh as well as ours do and I'm super grateful that's the case for our family.

Three  //  Our Milestone Wedding Anniversary Trip Extended & the Extra Resort Booked!

Flights just became available for our upcoming 20th Wedding Anniversary "just the two of us" celebratory trip this fall.  (I'm so excited to celebrate being married to my incredible better half for half of my life SOON!)  We decided to do something a little different this trip.  Rather than heading to the airport a few hours before dawn, we will be flying out an evening early and arriving shortly before midnight.  This will give us the day we'd typically spend traveling already there in the parks!  Oh yeah, in case you hadn't heard our trip is of the Disney World variety, naturally!  We haven't taken a couple trip there since fall of 2011, so this is sure to be magical!  I am tickled pink that our celebratory vacation will be in the happy place where we began our life together on the very week we originally honeymooned there!  We will enjoy all that Food and Wine Festival has to offer, delicious dining, and a more adult trip.  If you think Disney Parks are just for kids, I look forward to sharing some trip reports in the year to come that will show you otherwise!

Anyway, on to the details about our accommodations...  Since we did bump our trip up a day we were in need of a room for the night of our arrival. We decided to spend it at Disney's Pop Century Resort!  We've never stayed here before (firsts are so much fun) and they've recently refurbished their rooms giving them an entirely different look, which I love!

Photos Courtesy of  Tom Bricker of www.disneytouristblog.com.  See his full photo & video review of the new rooms at Pop Century here.

These rooms are have a clean, modern look to them.  They seem to be a fun value level resort option.  (AKA:  They're inexpensive, yet still give guests all the perks of staying on Disney property while also keeping you in the "Disney Bubble".)

After our first evening we'll be transferring to spend the following week at our Disney Vacation Club home resort, Animal Kingdom Lodge, in a savanna view studio!  Here's a peek at the spectacular sights we enjoyed a few years back when also scored a savanna view...

Yep, those are giraffes just outside our private balcony!

Here's a look at some of the animals we spotted from our balcony at night.  My husband turned up the exposure on our camera and I also brightened the photos up a bit to give you a better look at the animals.

I am super excited about this upcoming trip for two!  I'm thrilled it was extended a teensy bit too!  I look forward to recapping the Disney deets for you all right here in future Trip Report Tuesday posts!

Speaking of Trip Report Tuesday....

Four  //  Disney Posts Prepped for Months to Come!

I love reliving all the magical memories of our Disney vacations through creating and sharing recaps in my Trip Report Tuesday blogging series.  However, the process of putting the posts together is quite time consuming between sorting through thousands of photos, editing, uploading, and rambling away on all the deets of each day.  I honestly debated whether or not to create these new installments to the blog series recapping our recent trip.  I wasn't sure I wanted to spend so much time behind my computer each week throughout the summer months.  My family warned that I would regret it if I didn't.  (I am certain they were right. ;))  So, I decided I'd blog ahead using every bit of free time that either my girls were busy with other activities and/or my husband was working on our home improvement project here (which is currently every night and weekend).  Now just a few weeks into summer break I've officially completed the drafts for all 17 days worth of Walt Disney World Trip Report Tuesday posts to come!  Since I typically work each week on the post that's to be published the following Tuesday this felt like a HUGE accomplishment! While confetti and balloons didn't drop from the ceiling upon saving the upcoming WDW Day 17 post (that will be published way out in Mid-September!), I felt both a huge sense of accomplishment and relief that I've freed up that much time for the rest of summer break and carried on the tradition I started way back in 2013 of capturing those priceless memories from each of my family's Disney vacations thereafter!

A Note to Fellow Disney Fanatics
If you love the Disney Parks and have missed these posts you can check out my previous trip reports (from both Walt Disney World and Disneyland) in my Trip Report Tuesday tab HERE!  Want even more Disney goodness in your life?  Return to Chatting Over Chocolate each Tuesday for a fresh new dose of Disney.  When the final post recapping our most recent trip is published we'll actually be on our next WDW vacation!  Then, I'll be starting all over again with fresh new installments of fall fun at WDW!

Five  //  My Favorite Summer Sale!

Just a note before sharing:  I am in no way affiliated with Grace to You.  These links are being shared simply because I have benefited tremendously from this ministry and hope that any of you, sweet readers and cherished friends, that are looking for excellent resources will find this sale to be helpful to you and your loved ones as well!

Here are some of my top picks that I've personally purchased during previous Summer Sales!

My Favorite Daily Devotional

Direct Link:  Drawing Near

I bought this during the last summer sale and have been using it for about a year now.  It is absolutely wonderful!

Product Description (as given at GTY.org):

Drawing Near, the first book of its kind by John MacArthur, offers you 365 days' worth of practical, verse-by-verse nuggets of truth from Scripture. This devotional is designed to strengthen your overall understanding of the Bible and provide spiritual nourishment you can apply to day-to-day living. It's an ideal companion to you and your family's study of God's Word.

Also, if you prefer reading digitally you can find the devotions from this book for FREE daily at: https://www.gty.org/library/devotionals

Great Reads:

Direct Link:  Anxious for Nothing

Product Description (as given on GTY.org):

As Christians, we're certainly not immune to the troubles of life.  We aren't promised an easy road, and when troubles do come, we're urged to rise above them and experience "peace that passes all understanding."  But how, in day-to-day life, does that really happen?

While numerous books have been written on overcoming anxiety, Anxious for Nothing moves us beyond pop psychology's temporary cures by returning us to our one true source of comfort and victory—Scripture.  John MacArthur reminds us that God is completely sovereign, understands our struggles, and has equipped us with resources to not only face, but also to triumph completely over our anxieties.

This book comes with a study guide in the back of the book.

Direct Link:  The Glory of Heaven

A portion of the intro as shared in the product description on GTY.org:

Here’s a brief excerpt from the introduction concerning the current interest in heaven:
One thing is clear: it does not signal any significant upsurge of interest in the biblical perspective on eternity. On the contrary, the data actually seem to indicate that lots of people are simply making up whatever concept of heaven pleases them.
We would of course expect New Age practitioners, cranks, and cultists to abandon the Bible in favor of their own dreams and fantasies. But this tendency to invent one’s own personal concept of heaven seems to be an even bigger problem in the evangelical community than it is in the world at large.
The heart of our study together in this book will be an in-depth look at what the Bible says about heaven. No matter what one thinks about or wishes to imagine about heaven, the reality is different and better by magnitudes.
If the inerrant biblical truth God has given us is the only reliable knowledge about heaven we have access to (and it is), then that is what should grip our hearts and minds. . . . Now let’s see why the Bible’s account of heaven is so much better than the dreams and speculations of the human mind.

My Favorite Study Bible

Lastly at the tip top of my recommendations, my favorite study Bible!  This was one item I didn't purchase during a summer sale.  It was given to me by my sweet husband for Christmas a dozen years ago.  Since receiving this precious gift it has been my go to for studying the Bible! Its 25,000+ explanatory study notes have brought so much insight and clarity in reading God's Word in the intended context.  I cannot recommend it more highly as an incredibly helpful tool in studying the Bible!
