Five Loves on Friday // Simple Joys of the Week

Happy Friday, friends!  It's been a mostly uneventful week which always makes for a good time to whip up a Five Loves post.  It causes me to think through simple joys that made the week sweet.  Here are a handful of those faves...

One  //  Extra Time with My Firstborn

The only pic I snapped was of lunch (lol) from her fave, Panda Express.

Monday "Princess" texted at about half past 9am saying she was already off work for the day!  Her employer has been shuffling around schedules to prevent overtime, so she enjoyed an unexpected free day!  We grabbed one of her favorite lunches out, enjoyed watching some things we've been making our way through together, picked up a sweet sip from Scooter's, and simply savored having extra time together.  Time with those dearest to our heart is one of the greatest gifts!

Two  //  National S'mores Day

Tuesday was National S'mores Day which I thoroughly enjoyed celebrating. :)  I love random holidays and an excuse for a sweet treat too.  This day provided the pleasure of both!  If you missed it, I hope you enjoy a belated celebration soon!

Three  //  A Direct Flight

Jason is so awesome to diligently recheck flights each week once we've booked a trip to make sure there isn't a better offering from the airline.  (We fly Southwest and they allow you to change your flights fee-free.)  We are flying free on points this trip, but it never hurts to use less points, saving more for future travel.  This week he found a better flight home that saves us about a fourth of the points we were going to spend on our return flight home and it's a direct flight!  This will be our first ever nonstop flight from WDW!  They are rare to or from our home in the Midwest and have always sounded so wonderful!  It'll be especially appreciated when we're "Disney tired" to be able to hop on a flight in Orlando and walk off at home, likely to snow. Ha!

Four  //  Fun in the Kitchen

This summer I’ve been stuck in a cooking rut. I have just felt so uninspired.  Can anyone relate?  This week I remembered a time a while back when I challenged myself to try one to two new recipes per week and thought it’s about time that pick that habit back up again.  Last night I made Bacon-Ranch Chicken Enchiladas.  They were a hit!  I found the time in the kitchen therapeutic, the scent of the roasting the garlic wonderful, and taking that first bite of something new to be fun!

Five  //  Fluffy New Towels

This week I added a half a dozen towels to our linen closet that I ordered with a Kohl's 30% off coupon paired with an additional 15% off home purchases promo and free shipping.  They're so soft and plush, were a bargain, and will stretch my need to do laundry a smidge further.  Hooray for an all around win!

Thanks so much for popping by my little nook of the web today!  Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead!

Now I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika for another round of Friday Favorites!

    1. Yay! That's wonderful that you scored direct flights both departing for and returning from your upcoming trip! Can't beat that! If you give those enchiladas a try I hope you enjoy them too. Chicken, bacon, and ranch is just such a yummy combo!

  4. Great finds on the new flight! We've always flown Southwest and I don't think I realized that they allow you to change your flights for free. Luckily we usually can find direct flights to WDW from our local airport. I can't believe I missed national s'mores day... funny enough my son had a party that afternoon and I had thought about serving s'mores.

    1. That's awesome that you can usually find direct flights from your home airport to WDW! Such a nice plus! I'm happy that the info on southwest allowing fee-free flight changes came up here on the chance it may be helpful in your future travel plans too. :) Even though you didn't have or serve s'mores that day, they were on your mind so that counts for something. ;) Hope your week was just as sweet sans s'mores!

  5. I love S'mores! I didn't celebrate on Tuesday but did enjoy a S'mores sundae yesterday! I love trying new recipes and usually enjoy my time in the kitchen. Like you, I do find it therapeutic. It's so nice to spend one-on-one time with the kids, which I'm finding becomes more difficult as they get older! Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. A s'mores sundae sounds amazing! I'm not surprised that you, my sweet foodie friend, happened to enjoy a treat that was actually a s'mores upgrade! lol :) Over the years that I've known you through this great blogging community I've been both impressed and inspired by your kitchen creations. I should always head to your blog whenever I find myself in a rut! ;) I wholeheartedly agree, it's so nice to spend one-on-one time with our kids, and it's all the more cherished during times when it's harder to come by too. <3

  6. I should do that for when we fly, because we tend to always fly Southwest!! We don't have any upcoming trips, but we usually fly Southwest a couple of times a year. I am still trying to decide if we will do Disney next summer, or if we'll wait another year. Panda Express is so yummy! I have been in a cooking rut, too! We have been getting Hello Fresh and that helps me, since I don't have to plan what to make a few times a week! Lol!

    1. Yes, you sure should, friend! We've found better flights and saved money/airline points over the years checking back after our initial flight booking. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to share with another fellow southwest flyer! Hope it helps on a future trip! Whenever you do make plans for your next WDW trip I have no doubt it'll be a magical return to the parks! This is our third attempt to reschedule this trip after corona-cancelling a trip planed last October and also the trip we rescheduled for last May. Hoping nothing changes to hinder us from this trip. Lord willing, we will be there! If all goes as planned, I look forward to sharing a "Disney fix" with you to tide you over until your return. :) I agree, Panda always hits the spot! I've never tried Hello Fresh, but I'm so glad that you've found it helpful!
