Trip Report Tuesday: California Day 5 {Part 2} // San Francisco

Happy Tuesday, friends!  Wanna hear all about our evening in San Francisco?  I can hardly wait to share all the wonderful deets!

Day 5 - Wednesday, September 14, 2016  // Part Two

After leaving Ghirardelli Square we walked down to Hyde Street Pier and San Francisco's Maritime National Historic Park.

Here they had all sorts of displays to check out and fun hands on activities where awesome dads like Jason could show off their knot tying skills for their amazed children.  Little One may have picked up a thing or two, me (k)not so much! ;)

Again, we never pass up a fun photo op!

Walking around San Francisco's Fishermans Wharf area was one of the highlights of this trip for me.  I'm not sure that pics will do it justice, but this part of the city was hopping!  There was so much to see, do, and explore, all along the gorgeous backdrop and breeze of the Bay!

Here was our first peek at Alcatraz.  You can take tours, but prison wasn't on this day's agenda.

A closer look at that once maximum security federal prison...

I'm a big fan of hitting fun shops on vacation (or any time really, who am I trying to kid here).  If you've been around Chatting Over Chocolate for a bit, you also know that Jason and Little One really enjoy flying kites together.  So, a kite store was not something we were about to pass by!

We walked out of this store with a new kite for her collection, one that resembled her favorite animal, a duck!  Souvenirs that can actually be used and enjoyed for years to come are the best kind!

Pier 39

Seeing sea lions in the wild was totally on our agenda.  These guys and their, "Off, off, off"s didn't disappoint. ;)

As we strolled down the boardwalk we caught a performer just starting his show.  He was hilarious and talented, a great combination when stumbling upon unexpected live entertainment!

This entire boardwalk area was super cute!  It was lined with adorable shops, delicious stops, and fun surprises!

One such surprise was a musical staircase by the creator of the piano from the movie "Big"!

The girls had a ball "playing" this thing!

My two favorite lefties posing in front of a lefty specialty shop.

Being a big time seafood lover, eating fresh clam chowder while in San Francisco was on Jason's must-do list!

It was incredible how many grab and go seafood restaurants were lined up side by side!   Jason, always a researcher, took to Yelp and Trip Advisor for recommendations on which restaurant to order from.

Dream come true by the spoonful!

Such a "sweet" shop!

We have heard so much about In-N-Out Burger over the years and have never been anywhere near one to try it.  So, when our hotel was located literally a staircase away from one we knew what we were having for dinner!

We walked our yumminess up the stairs beside the restaurant and on into our hotel room where we promptly put on pjs, clicked on Disney Channel, ate, and relaxed after such a full and fabulous day!  From the Golden Gate Bridge to Ghirardelli Square and an evening strolling around Fishermans Wharf, it was a day to remember for sure!

Our San Francisco fun isn't over yet!  Next Tuesday I'll take you along on a trolley ride through Chinatown and Union Square, followed by a magnificently magical visit to the Walt Disney Family Museum!  Hope you'll be back for all the Cali fun to come!

My husband just published a video on YouTube from this day of our trip!  If you'd like to see some of my family's silliness captured (& hear about my hotel check in routine between laughs) click on over to our channel,

Five Loves on Friday

Happy Friday, friends!  I hope you've enjoyed a fantastic week!  If not there's good news, the weekend is coming pronto!  It was a pretty low key week here.  I'm certain I can still find a handful of loves to share though, so let's do this!  Five Loves time!

One  //  All the Seasons, All This Week

A peek at our week of weather weirdness

The ongoing joke around here is if you don't like the weather wait five minutes.  So true this week!  Today we're expecting snow, but just a couple days ago our windows were open as we enjoyed some gloriously gorgeous unseasonably warm weather!  While we're trading in shorts for snow shovels, I'm reminding myself that one of the things I love about living in the Midwest is experiencing all the seasons.  It's a little interesting when we seemingly go through most of them all in one week though!

Two  //  Nailing Fab Frugal Finds!
When Essie polish is on clearance that's awesome.  When you can take another 30% off and have it sent right to your front door for free, it's even better!  Four lit'l bottles for under $4 shipped?  Yes, please and thank you!  Loving these new shades I have to play with!  *I purchased these on sale from Kohls.com.  They're now sold out or I'd happily share a link for you here.

Three  //  Floral Fabulousness

Laura Ashley Ainsley Tablecloth // Kohl's

I have a thing for pretty tablecloths!  This loveliness was calling my name when I spotted it on clearance, plus the aforementioned extra 30% & free shipping Kohl's offered last week.  It arrived yesterday and I adore it!  There are some green petals in the mix that resemble shamrocks ensuring this will grace my table from St. Patrick's Day season on into the sweet springtime to come!

Four  //  Shaking Things up Around the Table & Finding New Recipe Keepers!

My goal this year has been to try at least one new main course recipe each week.  This week's menu newbie, Easy French Dip Sliders, was such a hit!  Simple and sensational, the best combo!

Roast beef, melted provolone, crunchy french fried onions, all on sweet Hawaiian rolls covered in a delicious au jus, these were amazing!  They'll most definitely be added to my regular meal rotation!

Also this week, I whipped up a new-to-us dessert, Soft & Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars.  YUMmmm!

As you can probably tell, I didn't wait the suggested hour of cooling before cutting into these babies, but that was a-okay with me as ooey gooey chocolate is one of my favorite things on the planet!  These, my friends, are worth baking A.S.A.P.!  My husband isn't even really a sweets fan and when I asked if he'd like a second he said, "One more would be great!  Those are fantastic!  Great job!"  What more could I hope for from any recipe?  My day was made and my taste buds were dancing!

Five  //  Glowing Goodies for our Next WDW Vacation!

Since our next Disney vacation will be during the Christmas season I couldn't resist these beauties on clearance especially during Disney Store's free shipping offer!  (I know, you may see a pattern here.  Free shipping and discounts on top of discounts are my jam!)  Anywho, these are even cuter in person than they were online!  Little One and I will be lighting up the night twinning in these by year's end!  I don't want to wish a single day away, but I am super excited about our next magical family adventure!  *These appear to be sold out now too.  I'd link them if I could. ;)

Thanks for popping by today!  Wishing you a fantastic Friday and lovely upcoming weekend!

Throwback Thursday // Around the World at Epcot!

Happy Thursday, friends!  Today I'm throwing back to a post featuring a music video my hubby created capturing oodles of FUN we enjoyed as we sipped, snacked, & explored Epcot during our most recent "just the two of us" trip to Walt Disney World!

Trip Report Tuesday: California Day 5 Part 1 // San Francisco

Hello, friends!  Ready for some more trip report fun?  Great!  Can't wait to share more with you today!

Day 5 - Wednesday, September 14, 2016

The only thing that made leaving Yosemite National Park that morning easy was my curiosity about our next destination, San Francisco!  We had never been and I was excited to see what adventures awaited us next!  We hopped in the car and set out to trade mountaintops for cityscapes and bay views.

Arriving in San Francisco...

Upon arrival to San Francisco we entered the fast paced hustle and bustle of the financial district.  Boy, is it hopping there!  One thing I loved about touring this diverse state were days like this.  Just that morning we'd been surrounded by breathtaking views of rugged mountains and towering trees and by afternoon we were in a completely different setting, the heart of a lively city!

My excitement grew and grew!  Check out that view!

The Golden Gate Bridge was even more beautiful to see in person than I'd anticipated!

A classic car FULL of teddy bears?!  How could we not take a photo with that?

Jason, being the awesome husband he is, scoped out not just one, but three different areas for us to view the Golden Gate Bridge from!  We could not have asked for a clearer day.  It was perfection!

Lombard Street, The Famous Crookedest Street

We couldn't resist traveling down San Francisco's crookedest street!

Time to check into our hotel and then check out more of this city!

We stayed at a Courtyard by Marriott and could not have been happier with that choice.  It was nice, clean, had a city view from our wall of windows, and best of all, it put us within walking distance of everything we wanted to see and do within that part of San Francisco!

We basically dropped our bags, snapped some room pics, and were off again to explore!

It was an absolutely glorious day outside!  The sun was shining, there wasn't a cloud in the sky, and this view had me instantly swooning.  What awaited us across the street had me giddy and nearly drooling!  Welcome to Ghirardelli Square, home of the original Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop!

Ghirardelli Square // Original Chocolate Manufactory
For a big time fan of chocolate, visiting this historical Ghirardelli gem was a real treat!

I felt like I'd won a golden ticket watching this chocolate flow!

Well, that my friends is a sweet spot to break in the middle of day 5!  Next week I'll show you around Fishermans Wharf, take you along for our first trip to In-n-Out Burger, and more!  Hope you'll be back for more virtual vacation storytelling to come!
